Diner chairs get seen from behind as often as from the front, which is why the Slate Wraparound Chair puts its detail on the back. Inside, the seat and the curved back are smooth grey vinyl. Outside, the shell is covered in a woven-texture finish that reads like a basketweave, so a row of these along a booth aisle looks finished from every angle.
Construction
- Solid wood frame with four tapered legs, stained grey
- Back legs rise past the seat to hold the shell at each side
- Upholstered seat over high-resilience foam on a firm base
- Wraparound back in vinyl with a woven-texture outer face
- Floor glides
The back curves around the sitter rather than standing upright, which gives it some of the comfort of an armchair without the extra width. It slides neatly under a 30 in (76 cm) table.
Where it works
Mid-century diners with a muted palette, all-day cafes, breakfast spots and the chair side of booth-and-table layouts. Grey keeps it calm next to bright booths; in black or oxblood it reads more supper club.
Options: vinyl color, outer back finish (woven texture or smooth), leg stain, glides. Foam can be specified to meet CAL TB 117-2013 on request.
