For a 1980s Memphis or pop-diner concept, a plain channel back is not enough. The Memphis Checkerboard Booth turns the back into artwork: a red square, a mustard circle set on a black square, and a green square split by a diagonal, each a separately upholstered pad edged in yellow piping. A brass-tone cap runs along the top.
Design details
- Oatmeal seat cushion with a black-and-white checkerboard band along the front of the base
- Oatmeal end panels: one with diagonal black stripes, the other with black dots
- Recessed black plinth that keeps toes off the upholstery
- Brass-tone metal top cap
Construction
Hardwood and plywood frame, glued and screwed; high-resilience foam seat; back pads built individually on plywood and fixed to the frame, so a damaged pad can be re-covered on its own.
Where it works
Pop diners, burger and shake bars, arcade-bar dining areas and any room built for photos. It works as a single statement piece or repeated along a wall with the shapes rearranged.
Options: pad shapes and colors, seat cover (contract vinyl recommended for food service), checkerboard and end panel graphics, top cap finish, length. Foam can be specified to meet CAL TB 117-2013 on request.
